Hi, I think that’a great idea, but I am not sure what will be the effort in this intermediate soft fork.
My ideal minimum scope is like:
- color design, logo, and policy
- feature toggles
- domain name
- … and so on
I am maintaining my own soft fork (https://green.leafwind.tw) and even the above change can leads to hundreds of files change, not to mention that updating the Appview of social app is quite an involved work which always requires a lot reverse engineering (as I mentioned in the other thread), and I think many developers are doing this intensive works every day.
I think one of the major issue is that Appview repo is neither modularized (for other deployments to be able to toggle features) nor easily customized (for other deployments to be able to replace their branding).
Have you guys thought about working with Bluesky engineers so that we can contributing this “intermediary” Appview back to Social app itself?
I am not sure how valuable my idea will be, but I would like to be involved in this topic
