From what I understand this was in the works for a while and was Jay’s choice.
Having her as an innovation/ ecosystem champion will be great!
This doesn’t change a lot for Bluesky PBC and their engagement with the ecosystem I don’t think. Maybe more bandwidth?
Toni is in an interim role and has to help find a CEO appropriate to the size of the (still growing) company. The company already is venture funded and has investor board members.
This space and the work we do is about growing and collaborating around the ecosystem, including the protocol, and including Bluesky PBC as a participant.
Seconded. Running a company is a job that she occupied by necessity. It’s a fundamentally different skillset than doing the work that got her in that position in the first place.
I’m not too concerned about the choice of interim CEO either. Toni seems better versed on the business and operations side of things, which is exactly what a CEO should be good at. Automattic has done good work (putting aside Matt’s behavior).
Ultimately, the CEO must answer to the stakeholders, and the composition of that hasn’t changed. If anything, I’m excited that Jay finally gets to do the work she’s the best at!
