I’m just going through the responses to the Call for Interest (yes, you can still fill it out) and there was a question about virtual workshops that reminded me to build the FAQ page for remote attendance:
One of the things we need is a lead for Remote / Hybrid experience. Leave a comment / DM me if you want to get involved. Including “I don’t think I can lead, but I’ll volunteer”.
Update: looks like Patrick and Erlend might be able to co-lead. We’ve got a call scheduled for Thursday if you have interest in getting involved with remote conference experience. Zoom link available after you RSVP.
I host a now-hybrid event called Game Devs of Color Expo and we’ve receieved a LOT of positive feedback from online attendants about using the Gather application.
The feature allowed ticket holders to make small avatars and move around a virtual pixel space (similar to Pokemon or Undertale), but also allowed voice and video combined with proximity audio so you were able to be in a secluded group with different people talking about a specific topic, or go into another small group with others discussing another topic.
We also had it link to different YouTube videos so we could show off talks/trailers during the event.
Really cool application especially for online showcases.
Thanks @sharpiepls.com! I’ve used Gather in the past and it can be fun as part of the experience. The sign up can be a bit clunky and I’ll love to at least pick something where we could link ATProto accounts.
But also – very much up to Streamplace and the hybrid lead to help figure this out!
I had someone else ping me about Hopin. We’re using Tito for ticketing and they have Vito as their video platform.
In 2027 (1000s of attendees???) we’ll likely need to adopt a platform of some kind. Or keep extending Streamplace!
I am very invested in making this work for Remote / Hybrid attendees. Would ideally like to see a much as possible streamed with a lot of chat engagement with each other and live attendees, especially with Q&A for all sections
I’m available for a call that week starting 10th and onwards.
I’m tentatively on board with co-leading such a remote space, sounds like a great test of Roomy! Would need at least one North American counterpart to cover that time zone though.
I’d love to get on the call to talk about how Roomy might fit in.
It’s probably best if my capacity is more dedicated to making sure Roomy keeps working if we end up using it in the conference, so I probably shouldn’t take any responsibility for leading things other than from a technical perspective on Roomy.
I was talking to @psingletary.com to get availability, and I think we’ll look to have a call next Thursday with @erlend.sh, you, and anyone else who is interested.
It sounds like Patrick and Erlend are willing to be “leads” – and they will definitely also support in the form of more volunteers, as well as whatever we decide to do tech wise.
I’ll post about call when we get timing confirmed.
I’ll try to join the call to help in any way I can, but I would need to sync with my lunchtime to be off work (manageable if between 2025-12-04T14:00:00Z→2025-12-04T16:00:00Z).
