ATProtocol Community at Opensauce 2026

Hi friends! Open Sauce is the spiritual successor to Bay Area Maker Faire, run by William Osman. About a hundred maker/science/nerd YouTubers and hundreds of community hackers come to hang out and show off whatever cool shit they’ve concocted. I’ve been going to Open Sauce for a couple years now. I think it would be a great place to share our enthusiasm for ATProto with like-minded hackers.

What would we do there? Spread the good word of ATProto (not Bluesky). Highlight the awesome products being built. Special for this event, I would love to see some community hardware hacks at the booth as interactive demos and proof of concepts. Show people that You Can Just Do Things.

I have an idea for a silly hardware project I will detail in this thread. Let this be my call for projects from you all. What would you bring to the ATProtocol Community booth at Open Sauce?

My silly project: You know the mental image of Zuck pulling giant levers and turning dials to manipulate the algorithm? We can make that. I’m imagining an arcade cabinet like contraption with a big vertical TV and a control board with all kinds of fun tactile controls like levers and faders and buttons and switches. Each input will affect a parameter of the ATproto feed shown on the screen. The feed will be generated by the machine itself, served locally, ingesting directly from the jetstream. This experience will be fun, but also clearly convey the affordances of the atproto network and algorithmic choice.
