Boilerplate Pitch to Publications

We know that Bluesky has better click-through rates than any other social media platform, and that publishing independence from platforms is more important now than ever. To that effect, advocating for news publications, especially local newsrooms, to publish to Bluesky and immerse themself in the ATmosphere, would be beneficial to our information ecosystem. Can we put together a boilerplate pitch that people can send to their local publications to encourage them to do so?

Such a document might include:

  • an appreciation of their work as journalists
  • a note on the state of platforms, particularly their power over what gets to be seen by their users
  • evidence of bluesky and atproto as a publishing ecosystem with better incentives and results
  • examples of publications who have invested in atproto and the results/experiences it has enabled for them
  • signatures of readers interested in subscribing through bluesky

Thoughts? I want to send such a letter to the publisher of my local paper.

Great idea. I think there have been several articles about links and reach, gathering those might be a good start.

Very often pubs will use tools like Buffer or Fedica for scheduling across platforms, so collecting those could be good.

Advanced might be using domain names as handles or custom feeds.

I’ve been thinking about quarter sheets we could hand out, more generally than specific to publications, and would expect the outputs to have a lot of overlap

I captured a few of my talking points in a HN comment on Dan’s article
