Bonfire Networks - Why Community Matters: Groups as the Next Step for the Fediverse

The Bonfire team are an ActivityPub powered set of software and servers. They’re currently going through a crowd fundraise, and just met their first “maintenance” goal and are fully funded.

This article announces that and then goes into detail on their first stretch goal, which is federated groups.

The article is excellent in going through different types of communities and their needs. A very good read to learn from related to a variety of collaborative and/or private use cases we’ve discussed.

Nice, I’m gonna back it.

Sounds like they’re aiming for compatibility with the threadiverse, which unlike Mastodon actually implements ActivityPub Groups.

I just hope Bonfire can take it one step further and support groups following groups:

Yeah I supported already and will run a test server somewhere.

Getting BridgyFed to support this AND having something compatible on the ATProto side is where I would like to get to.
