Experimental Polis Conversation About ATProto Account Discussion

Hey everyone,

I created a Polis conversation to experiment with collective deliberation on an important ecosystem-wide topic: atproto accounts + app signin/signup UX. I’ve never used Polis before so I’m not very familiar with what constitutes good vs bad statements, but I’m hoping this will help with some of the initial research into shared needs/aspirations. You can contribute to the conversation in two main ways:

  1. vote on existing statements. You can either “agree”, “disagree”, or “pass/unsure”.
  2. add your own statements to the set. Statements should be: “a stand-alone idea”, “a new perspective, experience, or issue,” and use “clear & concise wording”.

Happy deliberating!

I’m happy to be deeply in the minority.

Since I already went through this exercise for several years in trying to bring OpenID to the masses, I can predict how this will likely go.

haha can you say more?

“Sign in with Y” is unlikely to get much broad traction unless you’re offering something of significant value to the relying party (i.e. offline authenticated users, users with payment capabilities, or some other characteristic).

I wrote about the NASCAR problem in 2009. It’s probable worth revisiting it!

no kidding! in 2009 I was… learning about algebra in grade 7???

Tell me I’m old without telling me I’m old

(Then again, this is why I brought it up — ideally we suffered so you won’t have to! (In the same ways, anyway)).

Wow, I guess I’m no longer off on my own!

Storage attached!

And a significant and/or aligned user base.

Have a few other ideas but going to do the user interviews first.

I think Polis might be an interesting tool if we could get 1000s (10Ks?) of people filling it out but I think it needs some reading / background / context setting.

But maybe “build an edit button” is useful at scale.
