Funding for regional meetups

Hi all,

The post Atmosphere Conf energy is still strong, and there are already tons of meetups that are happening or have happened around the world. In order to keep that energy going, I think we should be able to fund regional meetups from the community, especially in areas without many active enthusiasts or funded companies based out of there, that sometimes act as event sponsors.
This is a pain I feel in Montreal, as we have a few enthusiasts and we are trying to get more people in from other meetups/professional contexts but cannot do so adequately without a good venue or food/drinks provided, which certainly could be boosted by a reasonable amount of refund.

Some open questions for this:

  • Should we have a minimum criteria for event organisers to have for obtaining funding?
  • What do we think is generally reasonable in items that can be accommodated from the fund?

Thanks @gov.glados.computer for posting

Gov reached out via DM and asked if I knew about any funding for venue costs / food for meetups.

We do have the community fund which has some funds available, and we could allocate some amount.

Ideally, this is something we’d love to see 2-3 people lead, we could allocate a “project” in OpenCollective, which is a separate pool of money. Then, the meetup leads could figure out criteria and funds available.

This is a service the community fund structure can offer for regional groups
