Hi everyone, when I launched Linkname a few months ago in February I kinda rushed this stage to get something out there asap and get feedback.
To be law abiding citizens of your fellow atproto I decided to attempt compliance with all of the usernames/handles that were already reserved by .bsky.social and @mastodon.social.
The benefit for me is to have code decide the rules and reduce the moderation burden by potentially checking something millions of times lol.
I know this is an atprotocol forum so I do not want to talk too much about Mastodon/ActivityPub; my goal is to not alienate the people who believe in the powers that decentralized social holds by excluding them from creating an account with OAuth.
Mastodon OAuth is currently wip. Bluesky OAuth works.
Would love any feedback! GitHub - attpslabs/aaa: Reserve bare-name handles on a PDS against existing bsky.social (AT Protocol) and mastodon.social (ActivityPub) identities. Zero-dependency, edge-safe, fail-closed. · GitHub
