Potential Obsidian Use Cases / Plugin Needs

Thread to document potential use cases, requirements, and needs for an Obsidian plugin. Please share a write up of how you use Obsidian and how you would envision using it.

I have had early discussions with Semble / Cosmik about supporting this with some funding, and Leaflet was also interested.

Could run this through the Community Fund to pool funds.

Will also write up a Backlink AppView that would support this, but that’s a separate thread I’ll write up.

I keep meaning to sit down and look deeper into this. Watching this thread in the meantime. :eyes:

I saw someone mention this on my Bluesky and it prompted me to share my potential use cases:

I use Obsidian to draft and store my blog posts. It would be great to have a way to share them using the standard.site lexicon (have it first validated, then shared upon green check mark).

I have a social app idea that I’m beginning to work on and it would be great if I could do bulk import from my Obsidian to the app.

Being able to synchronize PDS data with the vault would be cool. The one problem I see is that there would be no U in CRUD: either I can post to the ATmosphere or I can retrieve from the ATmosphere, I wouldn’t be able to modify a record, but I could delete.

I don’t have any specific requests as I think my personal use-case would be really convoluted but I’ll be watching this just in case :eyes:.

I keep all kinds of structured records in Obsidian and I publish using obsidian publish. I would love if that was mirrored to my PDS.

As a tool for thought, I love the linking of notes within Obsidian. There are existing plugins, and a native web clipper extension, to bring in all of your web bookmarks from Raindrop or Readwise. I may write a note or blog post and reference a link I encountered. I might see topic note with lots of backlinks to links I have found related to that topic. Typical emergent second brain stuff. As a user of Semble, or Monomark or any of the other bookmarking apps, an ATproto plugin could sync those bookmark records and enhance their usability within Obsidian. Perhaps locally convert community.lexicon.bookmarks.bookmark tags field to the obsidian format so that it meshes with all my local tags. Now all the links I’ve clipped to my PDS are available in my vault.

where it gets extra fun is that I am not restricted to only mirroring MY repository. Perhaps I am a fan of someone else’s brain in particular. I might subscribe to @bmann.ca’s Semble records within my own vault. Now my second brain is a hive mind, actively pooling sensemaking from curated sources.

I would love to link obsidian docs to standard.site records in my PDS.
