FOSDEM 2026 Call for organizers

FOSDEM happens every year in February-ish in Brussels, Belgium as a large gathering of free and open source developers.

For the 2025 edition Dietrich did a short talk and there was a community gathering at a restaurant.

For 2026, when the forms are available in the fall, we’ve had some discussions around requesting a developer room or otherwise planning ahead to attend and gather with some talks and community meetups.

If you’re interested in getting involved in planning and organize, please leave a comment!

Thanks Eli for noticing that the FOSDEM call for dev rooms is now up

The need here is to schedule two days worth of content.

Deadline is 3 weeks from now.

  • 12 October: deadline for developer room proposals
  • 26 October: accepted developer rooms announced
  • 30 October (or earlier): developer rooms issue Calls for Participation
  • 15 December (or earlier): developer rooms publish complete schedules

Still need someone to take the lead on dev room application.

If individual apps - maybe Tangled? - want to have booths (called stands by FOSDEM), the call for that is open now too FOSDEM 2026 - FOSDEM 2026 Call for Stands

Me/the rest of Streamplace are still planning on being around and I’ll be proposing a talk for the Open Media devroom. The Social Web devroom appears to be very ActivityPub centric.

@alex.bsky.team mentioned he’s planning to go.

I put a main track talk in because I joined a little too late for the call for devrooms, and will definitely go if it gets accepted. I know Bryan is interested as well. I do take the point that this is likely to be a much more ActivityPub-centric audience, though.
