Resources for a working group

Working group is kind of a nebulous term, so you can also think of it as a project or a group. A group of people that working together toward some common goal.

Requesting a working group

Here are two examples of threads that lead towards a working group

If you want to run a working group, here are the rough steps:

  1. Write a proposal in a new thread, Discussion is a good default category
  2. Explain who you want to join and what you expect to work on, and
  3. Recruit at least one other person to help organize the group
  4. Bonus Round: if this is a standard which involves code, have at least two apps/people/teams that commit to implementing it

Default Setup

Group

We’ll setup a Discourse group for you with a couple of owners and initial members. You can set the group to request invite, you can add / invite additional members as an owner.

The group has private messaging, like a mini mailing list, and it also controls access to categories.

Category

If you want a public OR members only category, we’ll create it for you, and restrict access using the group and/or add the group as members who can publicly moderate posts in that category

Gather Somewhere Else

Or, don’t use the forum at all! Write up a working group suggestion here to recruit, and document where you are meeting – Discord, Signal group, email, etc.

You can see a list of public groups here. You’ll typically need to be logged in to see groups or their members, and we can also do private groups.
